Nestled among the rooftops of Venice with a sweeping view of the Grand Canal and the famed Rialto Bridge, Hotel Palazzo Bembo unites history and comfort for a memorable experience in the City of the Doges.

PALAZZO BEMBO

The palace itself is a sumptuous example of Venetian Gothic architecture with its strong Moorish flavor resulting from the travels of Venetian merchants to the Eastern Mediterranean. It was built by the noble Bembo family towards the end of the fourteenth century along the quay destined for the unloading of coal, a resource which the family itself traded.

DOGE GIOVANNI BEMBO

THE BEMBO

The noble Bembo were among the ancient families of the Venetian aristocracy and sought refuge in the lagoon at the time of the barbarian invasions , fleeing from Bologna.  They were later present when the first doge was created in the year 697. Celebrated throughout the centuries, the family boasts saints, theologians, and military heroes, including Giovanni Bembo who defeated the Uskok pirates and was elected doge in 1635. The illustrious Pietro, elected cardinal in 1539, was from the branch of the family that owned the palace on the “Riva del Carbon” and appears to have been born in the same house.
